The YouWriter editor is designed for drafts, chapters, stories, and poetry. It keeps the structure of the text and lets you focus on writing without unnecessary settings. Workspace layouts let you switch between writing, editing, chapters, beta notes, publishing checks, and a clean text-only view.

Where to find it

Open a work from the author dashboard, then use the editor action or open a chapter editor. The professional editor includes formatting, autosave status, draft versions, and beta note access when notes exist.

Before you start

For chapter-based works, create or open the chapter you want to edit.

Keep an eye on the autosave badge: it shows unsaved local changes, saving, saved, or error states.

If you plan major rewrites, check draft versions before replacing large parts of text.

Important details

Autosave runs with a delay so typing stays smooth. A manual save is still useful before leaving a long editing session.

Server draft versions can be restored or deleted from the versions panel.

Reader formatting is preserved from the editor where supported: headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, alignment, and basic marks.

Beta-reader notes can be opened from the work navigation when at least one note exists.

Workspace layouts are optional. Use Write for drafting, Edit for tools and versions, Chapters for navigation, Beta for notes, Publish for final checks, and Clean for distraction-free writing.

If something does not work

Autosave shows an error.

Check login status and network connection, then save again before closing the page.

Formatting looks different in reading mode.

Preview the chapter. Some reader layout settings can change visual spacing without changing the text.

A restored version is not what you expected.

Review the version timestamp and compare content before confirming another restore.

The editor opens in the wrong layout.

Turn off “Open last layout” or use Reset layout in the workspace toolbar.

Common questions

Why is text not saved instantly?

Autosave runs with a short delay so it does not interrupt typing.

Can I return to an earlier version?

If versions are available, open the version panel in the editor.

What are workspace layouts?

They are ready-made editor modes. Write focuses on text, Edit adds tools and versions, Chapters opens navigation, Beta shows notes, Publish shows final checks, and Clean hides distractions.

What if a chapter does not publish?

Check the work status, required text, and content warnings before publishing.
